Warming coco-berry brown rice porridge

This morning was one of those days were you wake up and say ‘holy crap it’s FREEZING outside!’  Hello Sydney winter loving-time!

I usually head to for blender to make a nutrient rich jar of liquid breaky but today it didn’t feel right.  My years of wellness experimentalism have proven to me that my body ALWAYS knows best.  Providing I can differentiate between the guidance that comes from my gut; the feelings, sensations and CRAVINGS that indicate what my body requires in the nutrient and mineral department, and the noise of my head (which generally asks for more Loving Earth raw chocolate ALL THE FREAKING TIME) I know that I’m in good hands.  Our bodies are super SMART and we should always get quiet and tune in to what they are trying to tell us… get connected and conscious and your world will literally open up – I promise!

So today’s self chat went a little something like this…

ME –       Yo beautiful body that I love unconditionally, what is it you need to feel nourished today?

BODY –      PORRIDGE!!

ME –   Ok then 

So naturally I obliged (although I haven’t eaten porridge since OD-ing in Goa 2 years ago on so much brown rice date and banana goodness it was out of control… aaah the memories) … and so the coco-berry brown rice breaky risotto-esque concoction was born.  I highly recommend you give this baby a roll… It’s super delicious and I can still feel the LOVE and joy emanating from my belly as I write.

Coco-berry brown rice porridge:

Gluten, refined sugar, dairy free!!

Combine the following in a pot on the stove (low heat)

  • 2 cups organic brown rice (I had some left over from our intentional goddess gathering last night – more on that later)
  • a good splash of coconut milk (or cream if you are extra decadent.. or you can exchange for any other nut milk – preferably homemade) – your call on how wet you like your porridge.  I added a bit of spring water as well for some extra liquid.
  • roughly chopped organic figs
  • roughly chopped nuts (I used brazil nuts as they were in front of me on the bench)
  • shaved coconut
  • cinnamon
  •  fresh berries (well mine were actually frozen but not for long once they hit the pot)
  • chia seeds (about 2tbs)

Stir this delicious mixture of nourishing goodness together until it starts to blend… serve and garnish with some beautiful bits, and get it into your belly… savouring every mouthful.

OH – hold a beat… before you eat, actually as you cook, infuse your food with LOVE, GRATITUDE and POSITIVITY (and whatever it is you feel you need right now)… food is information, energy and vibration (just like us — cue Nahko and Medicine for the People track ‘I am a miracle made up of particles’) so what we eat we become… so BE LOVE (because you are).

Bringing the smoothie love to Wanderlust Festival!

WANDERLUST FESTIVAL + SMOOTHIES = AWESOME! 

Having yet another moment of feeling incredible lucky as more amazing opportunities flow my way. The power of intention is certainly an amazing tool. I’m blown away every day!

Now back to the point…

I have a little announcement for you. I’m so excited to report that I will be whipping up some of my favourite smoothies at WANDERLUST FESTIVAL in Sydney this weekend (and the crowd goes WILD!).  Wanderlust is a celebration of yoga, music, dance, delicious and conscious food, inspiring talks, amazing people, ethical shopping and sustainability.  I was lucky enough to be a part of the first ever Australian event in Melbourne on March 10 where my soul sista DJ RIA and I served up a whole lotta YogaRhythms deliciousness (more on YogaRhythms later).  For this Sunday’s gig you could be getting your downward dog on with a whole range of magical masters —  Eoin Finn (Canadian Blissologist), Cameron Shayne (USA guru killer and Budokon master), YogaBeyond’s (and my bosses) Claudine and Honza and the beautiful Angel and Matt from Future Sound of Yoga (plus many more… like Kate Kendall, Tiffany Cruikshank, Duncan Peak, Evangeline Yeun and her antigravity skills.. too much amazing for one post).

AND… This time round I’ll be OFF STAGE for a change, hanging with my blender and my peeps from House of Yoga, Redfern and making some smoothie magic in their stall!  I can’t wait to nourish you all with some goodness!

 MY SMOOTHIE CRUSH 

Those who know me well (or have been hanging on my instagram) know that I’m a sucker for a smoothie… green, pink, orange, brown, even lavender (that was today’s concoction)… I love them all, especially when they are nice and thick and I can eat them with a spoon!!

I’ll be bringing three of my favourite smoothie sensations to Wanderlust this Sunday… and here is a little taste for now.

GREEN AND GORGEOUS

GREEN AND GORGEOUS

(cos you are gorgeous)

START IT RIGHT (BASE):
1 small frozen banana
approx 2 – 3 stalks of kale but discard the tough stalk and use the leaves (high in magnesium – the Queen of Greens to her friends and those in the know)
½ an avocado (the perfect food – high in good fat, over 20 essential nutrients… also great for smoothie consistency)

HYDRATE IT:
1 X young coconut – water & flesh (magical and super hydrating, great fats and electrolytes)
Some ice made with filtered water (fluoride and chemical free if poss)

SUPE IT UP:
1 tsp hemp seeds (high protein and omega 3s, lots of essential minerals — totally the sh*t)
1 tsp chia seeds (magical little balls of goodness – high in protein, omega 3s, antioxidants, calcium, iron.. the list goes ON!)
1 tsp bee pollen (massively energising, anti-inflammatory, good for immune health, fertility — and so pretty for decorating – GO BEES!
1 tsp spirulina (alkalizing, special green power protein, rich in vitamins so super nourishing)
1 tsp chlorella (also alkalising and a natural cleanser which is important due to the dirty/toxic world in which we live)
A little dulse seaweed (high in iodine and really nourishing for your thyroid – also helping to protect us from toxicity — uuuugh flouride!!)
Good pinch of cinnamon (anti bacterial and great for blood sugar control…and naturally sweet and delish)
Pinch of turmeric/or some fresh organic turmeric (anti imflammatory, anti bacterial and natural detoxer – YEP it’s radical!)
Optional – Pinch of cayenne, gubinge, lucuma, nutmeg, aloe vera, milk thistle, poppy seeds (for so many other reasons – to be discussed another day)

Where did all the abundance go?

It has to be said that this year is off the hook in travel expenses for me and my beautiful beau.  We both have the same ideology – to live like rock stars and say yes to everything – and as a result we are travelling all over the place, for weddings, yoga, work and of course to reunite with our playa family at  Burning Man!!  Truly creating the rock star world of our dreams!!

Although we have only been together for a relatively short time we have both always lived like this, following our dreams, seizing the day and doing what many would think is not possible and way out of reach.  I always used to get asked how on earth I can travel so much with a full time job (and sometimes I wonder how I’ve pulled it off too) and how I find the money to have such radical adventures…  the answer is simple (yet sometimes hard to hold on to)… BELIEVE, TRUST and live your ABUNDANCE!  Just throw yourself off the cliff and know that once you have committed to something you will be supported, that is if you feel worthy of support (but that’s another story).

The reason this is coming up for me today is because we have been talking about money… money for all the flights, who is paying for what… uuugh… lots of 3D money bluurgh shit and it’s making us antsy.  I have tension and pain in my body.  I look tired.  I feel as if my vibration and dropped down a notch.  **REALITY CHECK FOR A SEC!! When on earth in this life have we ever got so stuck in the money vibe? And why would we want to start now?

I am writing this post as a little reminder to myself and the beau that we are being looked after and will never want for anything.

Get creative

Here are a few little tips to get you (and us) back on track… and free falling once again in the FLOW!!

1)  BE how you want your life to BE

In the book ‘Conversations with God’ Neale Donald Walsch describes our nature of believing that if we “have” a thing (more time, money, love — whatever), then we can finally “do” a thing  (write a book, take a trip etc), thus allowing ourselves “be” a certain way (eg happy!!).  In actuality we have this ALL WRONG.  We have reversed the Be-Do-Have paradigm.  In the Universe as it really is actually the other way around – First you must “BE” a certain way and then you will “HAVE” a certain state of being… comprende??   So the mantra here is to “BE” how you want to be…. Live your life like you want to live it… and the Universe will conspire to paint that picture for you.  Energy is handy like that!!  A useful way to set this creative process in motion is to look at what you “HAVE” and ask yourself what you would “BE” if you had that and then go straight into “BEING”, thus reversing the way you have been using the BE–DO–HAVE paradigm and working with the creative powers of the Universe.

In a nutshell – “In life, you do not have to do anything.  It’s all a question of how you are being!!”

And today we have been antsy, worried about money, feeling like we don’t have enough to fulfill our dreams… eeeek… not the best approach SJ and Joe!!! Let’s switch this up immediately!!

2)  See the world as abundant and ever providing

Change your perspective and consequently change your frequency!!   As I mentioned before, the world is working with you and HELPING your massively, providing you are on the same page and not on some self perpetuating negative trip!!

3)  Affirm it with words and vibration: I attract success and abundance into my life because that is who I am.

SAY it out loud… sing it even!  Change your vibration and tell the Universe that you are ready to go.  It needs to know you are ready so speak up!!  As per my first point, you need to “BE” the destination or the goal (and you already are cos all of this wonder and limitless potential is already inside each and every one of us) but sometimes you need to remind yourself!! OUT LOUD!!

4)  Trust and ALLOW

Often when we block the energies that are here to work with us it is because of some deep internal stop signs.  Only you can go within to acknowledge and work through the old patterns of thinking and blockages that may be holding you back and stalling you prosperity and joy. In the words of Wayne Dyer, “Resistance is disharmony between your desire for abundance and your beliefs about your ability or unworthiness”.  By allowing we create the perfect alignment and end the negativity and doubt… knowing that you are one with the Universe and everything is going to totally cool.  Just picture and BE where you want to be and the rest will be taken care of!

5) Practice abundance

Just because you are asking for lots of Universal help does not been you are going to use up all the good stuff – guess what – It’s unlimited!! YEAH!! So be generous and know that it is all coming back to you (and everyone) providing you are open to receiving and allowing… use your prosperity to raise the vibration of others.

6)  High vibes!!

Monitor your  emotions as a guidance system for your connection to the Universal mind of intention.  When you are inspired and passionate you will activate dormant forces and set the abundance FLOWING… but when you are negative, anxious, angry, hateful and low vibrational this is a red flag to tell you that you are a little out of the flow… Vibes UP at all times PLEASE and remind yourself in these negative times that you want to feel good, thus setting that intention in motion.

7)  Be grateful!!
